Carlea Atkinson, LCMHCA
Psychotherapist
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate

What does it look like for you to be seen, heard, and validated? That is the space I aim to create in our work together.

Navigating teen life and young adulthood can be hard. During these years, life is a whirlwind of uncertainty, never ending lessons and loads of questions. You may be feeling more irritable, worrying more or feeling sad or misunderstood. As a parent, you might have noticed changes in your teen, and you question whether they will make better decisions or feel better or worry less.

You do not have to try and figure out these things alone. So many people deal with these same struggles. You can feel better and have more confidence. I am here to help.

I love helping teens and adults figure out how to navigate life in a way that feels right for them. Through our work, my clients have a better understanding of the environments, the relationships, and personal beliefs that may contribute to how you’re feeling and how you’re going about life. My clients feel more comfortable and confident in advocating for their own health and wellbeing and making better decisions for themselves.

My counseling style is person-centered, meaning you are the focus, and I am here to support and guide you. When working with me, through either in-person or virtual sessions, therapy will always be personally tailored to you.

Professional Background…
Since my very first job, I’ve worked with teens and young adults. They are my passion! Over the years, I have helped my clients with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, sexuality, trauma, broken relationships, and life stressors. Whether you’ve experienced trauma or are having a hard time figuring out your relationships, your family dynamics or adjusting to adulthood, I am honored to support you through it.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate.

Personally…
I enjoy spending time with my friends, baking and watching football. Go Steelers! I LOVE anything leopard print and laughing is my ultimate form of self-care. I have a dog who keeps me young. Together we love to get fresh air and try different greenways throughout Charlotte to walk. If we’re feeling extra motivated, we go hiking.
